Wiltshire Working Gundogs Training update

A word from Annabel Kettler Retriever Training Coordinator

With a lot of thanks to Lord Margadale and Mick and Sharon Lewis we had a fun filled last evening’s training at Fonthill. I’m afraid that the light was not good so I struggled to get as many pictures as I would have liked. The puppies, kindly taught by Lucy Arnold were training in the wood with seen and memory retrieves; The Novice, kindly taught by Ken Green were also in the wood with unseen and directional retrieves and The Open, kindly taught by Nick Coates, were out in the open, in fern and grass that was taller than they were, making it rather difficult for the owners to see where their dogs were and direct them onto memory retrieves. I think it was just as hard for the owners to remember where the marks were as it was for the dogs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves; it is always a rather sad time when we come to the end of training. Luckily all seemed enthused to come back next year. I will get the dates out as soon a I can. There are many thanks you to say, especially to our landowners, game keepers and teachers but I would also like to thank all those who turned up for training, as without all of you the evenings would not work and the raffle would be much less exciting! Until next year …..

A word from Steve Langdon, Training Coordinator

The sun shone, their were lots of attendees and a brilliant evening was had by all.  With dogs cooling off in the water with lots of water retrieving and a little shade being saught in the woods too whilst practicing their hunting. Retriever Training Report

With thanks to Lord Margadale and Mick and Sharon Lewis we had a lovely evening of training at Fonthill on Wednesday. It was hot and the midges were out but I managed to get a few rather fun pictures.

Lucy Arnold kindly instructed the puppies with obedience work and some seen retrieves. Ken Green kindly instructed the Novice with lots of distraction work, catching very few of them out and Nick Coates instructed the Open with some retrieving into lots of tall grass and high bracken; two retrieves at a time so seen and memory.

Everyone seemed to have a fun evening and with only one more training session for this year we look forward to returning to Fonthill on Wednesday 17th July.

Please see more pictures on our Facebook page and do feel free to copy the pics and save them onto your computer there is no restriction on them.

Spaniel Training Update

What a fabulous night we had training last Monday evening.  A huge thanks firstly goes to Howard Feltham for letting us use his ground.  It really is such a stunning location and the ground is incredibly versatile; we are so very lucky to be able to train there.

The sun shone and with over 20 people attending the evening, we had roughly 5 spaniels per trainer. This worked so well with trainers really being able to get to know the dogs and to have a really productive evening. Each group took turns retrieving on land and then in water.  As well as retrieving also focussing on their hunting up.  A big thank you also to Tom, Shane, Paddy and Ray are super star trainers and to Steve for coordinating.

Training next Monday will again be at Howard Feltham’s, Ford Oak Farm, Limpers Hill, Mere, BA12 6BD. please meet from 6.45 pm for 7pm start.

Many thanks
