The Wiltshire Working Gundog Society held its final Retriever Working Test of 2017 on 28th August. The Open and Novice Retriever Walked Up Tests were held at Bake Barn, Chicklade on the Fonthill Bishop Estate, by the kind permission of Lord Margadale and keeper Mick & Sharon Lewis.
The Judges were Nick Coates and Jane Mann, and we owe them great thanks for giving up their Bank Holiday Monday to come and judge for us, and to all the helpers who stewarded, threw dummies and carried ‘game’ on such a hot day. We are so grateful to these people who help and mean these competitions can take place, and it is usually the same people who volunteer time and again. On a day like Monday it is very hard working standing and walking in the sun without a break and carrying dummies!
Thanks also to our sponsors Skinners who have provided all our prizes for the tests this season.
The test was held on a plantation, with a mixture of tree stumps, white grass, bracken and brambles. Some dogs found the terrain along with the heat very hard going. The Novice test finished with a drive on the edge of the woodland.
Well done to all the award winners.
